Also, it is able to do this by still being bluetooth meaning that you don't need wifi to use it.

This scanner is top of the line and was made by mechanics for mechanics. This doesn't mean that an everyday person can't use it though. It comes with its own special app and can check any part of the car that you need it too. One really awesome thing about this is is has repair reports built into the app,s so depending on the code you can know how to fix it.

This scanner also works for pretty much everything. It works for all the common vehicles, and even gets updated regularly to make sure that it will still function a few months or years from now.

The customer service is also excellent. The few customers that have had issues with this had older vehicles. This is something to keep in mind if your vehicle is older, but still is more of a vehicle by vehicle bases. Some older stuff it works fine on.

Also, some diesel things it has issues on, but all OBD2 scanners can have some compatibility issues, so you should just do a little research first before buying if you are worried.

Outside of the small compatibility issues, the BlueDrive is great and can do anything you want. You will have the power of a professional scan tool in your hand and also know that it will be updated regularly. Also, having its own app is nice and being able to work with Android and Apple is a big plus because if you decided to change your phone, then you won't have to worry about getting a new scan tool.

2 BAFX PRODUCTS BLUETOOTH DIAGNOSTIC OBDII READER / SCANNER FOR ANDROID DEVICES

BAFX PRODUCTS BLUETOOTH DIAGNOSTIC OBDII READER / SCANNER FOR ANDROID DEVICES

Starting the list is the BAFX product bluetooth Dianostic OBDII Reader/scanner for Android devices

This scanner is a hot seller, and for a good reason. One of the big reasons why this scanner is so good is because it works for all cars 1996 or newer.

This also works with both gas and diesel vehicles. This is guaranteed, and if it doesn't work for you, then you get your money back.

Another top thing is that it has a two-year warranty. This gives you peace of mind that the product will last and won't need replacing right away.

One thing that users love about this scan tool is that the customer service from BAFX Products is excellent. They get back to questions right away and help you troubleshoot problems that you are having.

Another reason why this scan tool is a favorite of many users is, on top of reading check engine lights and resetting them; it can also do some other things. It can check O2 Sensors, Fuel Trim, Air Fuel Ratio, all the temperatures of things, Fuel Pressure & so even more. This means that you get a professional level tool that is easy to use. However, it can not check airbags, abs, or reset oil light. This is a bit annoying, but not too much of an issue.

The other thing to be aware of if choosing the BAFX OBD2 scanner is that it only works with android or windows based products. It can not be used with any apple or iOS products. This means if you have an iPhone, then this scanner is not for you.

Also, this does not come with any software. You have to get scanning software separately. The manual has some recommendations and you can get free or paid software, but it is an extra step and the software you get may not work right with this model. Other then those few things though, this is a good bluetooth scanner that does a lot.

3 SCANTOOL 427201 OBDLINK LX BLUETOOTH: PROFESSIONAL OBD-II SCAN TOOL FOR ANDROID & WINDOWS

SCANTOOL 427201 OBDLINK LX BLUETOOTH: PROFESSIONAL OBD-II SCAN TOOL FOR ANDROID & WINDOWS

Next up is the ScanTool 427201. ScanTool is a top brand and trusted in the scanning tool industry. This means that when you buy this scanner, you know you will get getting something good. Customers lvoe the service from them. One great thing about this scan tool is that it comes with its own dedicated app. This means that you don't have to worry about it not working when you need it to. To make it even better you can still use it with third party apps if you want too. This way you get the best of both worlds because you might find an app that you like the layout better, then the one that it comes with.

The 427201 can do pretty much anything and is only limited by the app and the car. This scanner is compatible with all 1996 or newer gas vehicles, and most small trucks. If you have an everyday common vehicle, from a common make, then this scanner should work. This scanner may not work however on exotic cars. This scanner uses all five OBD2 protocols, which helps with the compatibility.

Another scanner from this company is the ScanTool OBDLink MX Bluetooth: Professional Grade OBD-II Automotive Scan Tool for Windows and Android – DIY Car and Truck Data and Diagnostics (Model  426101). The main difference between the two is that the 426101 is a bit faster.

It allows single-wire CAN and Medium Speed Can, where the 427201 doesn't. This is the only difference between the two.

The downsides to the ScanTool scanners is that they only work on android phones and windows devices. However, the don't work on windows 8 phones. This means that for apple users you will have to get a different scanner. Also, people complain that these read slow, but some of that might be the app that they are using.

ScanTool advertises these as 300 times faster then competitors, so for the users saying these are slow, then the others might be really slow to them. Also, one other complaint is while it comes with its own app, you have to upgrade it to get the full benefits. This is kind of kept on the down low on the product page, but it is worth knowing. Outside of these things, the ScanTool 427201 and 426101 are both great scanning options.

4 CAR WIFI OBD 2 OBD2 OBDII SCAN TOOL FOSEAL SCANNER ADAPTER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC TOOL FOR IOS & ANDROID

CAR WIFI OBD 2 OBD2 OBDII SCAN TOOL FOSEAL SCANNER ADAPTER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC TOOL FOR IOS & ANDROID

Yes, it is Wifi obd2 scanner. This means that it does not work on bluetooth.

I recommend that in top 5 bluetooth obd2 scanner because it It also uses wireless connectivity

Wifi adapters are nice because the transfers happen more quickly than with Bluetooth.

The fact that it is wifi is good because you don't have to worry about bluetooth issues, but it is bad because you can't use it anywhere.

You have to have a wifi connection to be able to use this scanner. If you can turn your phone into a hot spot, then that isn't a problem, but if you can't, then it is a major issue.

It can work with “OBD Car Doctor” and "OBD Fusion"  (having fee) for iOS. Recommend "Torque lite"/”Torque Pro” and "DashCommand" for Android. Please wait wifi connection done in 10 seconds

This scanner works with both android and apple products. This means no matter what kind of device you have, this scanner will work for you. This scanner is supposed to work with most common car models and makes.

It is said to work with Ford, Chevy, Honda, and many other OBD2 cars, however some users have had issues with this working, so you might have to do your own in-depth research on if it works with your particular car.

Also, it has a one year warranty, but some customers have had issues with the customer service from Foseal.

Outside of these issues though, the Foseal scanner, is a good one. It can do a lot from reading codes and clearing them, resetting the check engine light, check fuel pressure, check different temperatures, and so much more.

Also, it is easy and straight forward to use. If the quality wasn't a coin flip and if the customer service was better, then this scanner would rate higher.

5 PANLONG PL-B02 BLUETOOTH CAR DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER CODE READER (OBD2 OBDII CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR ANDROID - COMPATIBLE WITH TORQUE PRO)

PANLONG PL-B02 BLUETOOTH CAR DIAGNOSTIC SCANNER CODE READER (OBD2 OBDII CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR ANDROID - COMPATIBLE WITH TORQUE PRO)

The Panlong PL-B02 is another OBD2 scanner that only works for android. They have a wifi model for apple users however. This one also doesn't come with a specific app, so depending on what app you use, will affect some of what it can do.

Depending on the app that you choose to pair with this OBD2 scanner it can read, and clear codes while also checking the temperatures of the fluids. It can tell you your speed, check fuel pressure, check airflow, and even estimate fuel consumption. Some of this also depends on the car you have, on what it can do.

For compatibility the Panlong will work on all 1996 or newer gas vehicles. It may work on diesel vehicles as well depending on make, but isn't guaranteed. This device also comes with a one year warranty.

Most users have had really good luck with this scanner working properly and it not breaking. The few that have had issues were able to contact the customer service and get them resolved. The customer service is top notch and makes this one worth considering because even if it doesn't work how you want it too, you can get a resolution without stress.

Their are some quality control issues where some arrive not working, but this is to be expected for any you buy that you might get a bad one. Also, as time goes on if an app updates, then it might cause this to stop working, since the app is made by a third party. It would be really nice if this had its own dedicated app, but it is still a great scanner even outside of this.

Which is the best obd2 scanner for you?

So now it is time to get down to which is the best. If you have an Apple phone or tablet, then the only real option is the BlueDrive for bluetooth scanners.

The Foseal works, but isn't a bluetooth scanner and having to have wifi can be annoying. For android users you have a lot more options. If you don't mind using a third party app, then any of them are good.

For quality though the BAFX would be the best if you are going the third party app rough. If you want one with a dedicated app though, then again the BlueDriver is the best for android users as well. This is because it can just do so much and is reliable, but the different ScanTool models are close.

One comment on “What Are The Best Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner In 2024?”

  1. So I just got an FIXD. Very disappoint in the info available through the unit (including the support team which billed me for a "Free" premium trial on a Christmas gift I had not yet received despite sending the premium activation code that was NOT activated, sorry for the rant). If I knew nothing about cars and you were going to head to a shop I could see it's place.

So I am looking for suggestions for a bluetooth scanner for someone who has some knowledge of car mechanics. I found about 20 on Amazon and very little review info anywhere other that setup and basic features etc.
So what specifically made me look for a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner was needing the Transmission temperature for a Mercedes Benz ATF refill.

So ideally: a bluetooth scanner with full access to a MB that is more that just a repair shop recommendation tool (I am a DIY mechanic).

    So any suggestions for
